Another Parallels tip

I do a lot of my work in the Windows side of my Mac, with Windows occupying the whole screen. For that reason, I can’t see all the usual notifications of incoming events on the Mac side (e-mails, Skypes, chats etc.) I’ve found that Growl is a good solution to this. Growl is a general Mac notification system, into which many applications plug. Its nicely-crafted bubbles of incoming events appear even on the Windows side of the computer.

This may be obvious but you could get a second monitor and have Windows running full screen on the external screen and OSX on your laptop screen. Parallels will adjust the resolution of the Windows window to suit the external monitor when you do the ‘alt-enter’ rotate screen thing.

Thanks for the tip – that’s true – and I do that sometimes. But, often, I’m working on the train or in another office and carrying around an extra monitor doesn’t work too well :-) I also find that I can’t get comfortable if I am trying to use a laptop monitor and a second screen at the same time – for some reason it just doesn’t work for me ergonomically.
