		<description>I&#039;m not sure where the boundary between &quot;producing&quot; open source software and &quot;maintaining&quot; open source software lies, but I&#039;ve made a living for the last eight years working on open source software exclusively (and for another year back in the 1990s, maintaining and selling support for CVS, so almost a decade all told).  I know many other people who also make their living from open source software.  And one of the programs I worked on was written from scratch (with many people, most of whom were volunteers, not salaried), so I guess that counts as &quot;producing&quot; the software.

That&#039;s not to say that a particular business model will work in your particular situation, of course; I don&#039;t know the details of how Macrobug development nor financing work.  Just offering a data point.
